Located about an hour to the northwest of downtown Phoenix is one of Arizona’s premier retirement communities – Sun City West – which quiet literally has something to offer every walk of life! After the tremendous success of the first master-planned community for active adults, Sun City, the Del Webb Corporation began a second project in 1978. By 1997, Sun City West had attracted 31,000 residents from 50 states, Canada and other countries.
Sun City West is actually an unincorporated community and does not have the same city government structure as other metro cities do. Although Maricopa County provides the street maintenance, building and zoning codes, law enforcement and public health safety the other community affairs are managed by two organizations known as The Recreation Centers of Sun City West and The Property Owners and Residents Association. Together, these two groups of elected volunteers maintain the renowned reputation that Sun City West has built over the past 30+ years.

Sun City West boasts a variety of lifestyle amenities between 4 Recreation Centers, 9 premier golf courses, fitness centers, 6 pools, 30 lane blowing, a private 40,000 volume library and two dog parks.
R.H. Johnston Center is the largest activity center in Arizona sprawling over 118,000.
The Palm Ridge Center features 3 swimming pools and tennis courts.
Beardsley Park Center offers an Olympic sized pool, mini-golf and horseshoe pits.
The Kuentz Center includes a softball field, a woodworking shop and the prestigious Stardust Theater.

Safety and Medical Services
If you plan to winter in sunny Arizona but spend your summers “back home” then you won’t need to worry with the Sun City West Sheriff’s posse. This is a group of Sun City West volunteers who patrol the area, offering vacation watches for absentee homeowners.
Within the community of Sun City West, is Del E Webb Memorial Hospital or Sun City Boswell Hospital located in Sun City, Arizona. In addition, Phoenix is the home to Barrow Institute and Mayo Clinic. Surrounding the hospitals are many private doctor’s offices, clinics and medical facilities. Within each community fire station are members of the hospitals emergency room staff as well as professional paramedics, to ensure residents that in the even of an accident, heart attack or other life threatening injury, your needs will be met with prompt attention.
